Education Cooperation Protocol Signed Between Türkiye and Syria

A Ministry delegation, led by Deputy Minister of National Education Celile Eren Ökten, conducted a working visit to Syria from July 8-10, 2025. The delegation included Director General Özcan Duman, Director General of Higher Education and International Education Fethi Fahri Kaya, and Director General of European Union and Foreign Relations Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ünal Eryılmaz.

During the visit, meetings were held with Syrian Education Minister Muhammed A. Turko, Deputy Ministers Yusuf Annan and Ahmed Alhassan, with the participation of Türkiye's Ambassador to Damascus Prof. Dr. Burhan Köroğlu. Aleppo Deputy Governor Azzam Hancı also participated in the meetings.

During the consultations held between the parties, opportunities for sustainable cooperation in the field of education were discussed. In this context, an "Education Cooperation Protocol" was signed between the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Education of the Syrian Arab Republic. The protocol was signed by Deputy Minister of National Education Celile Eren Ökten on behalf of Turkey, and Deputy Minister of Education Yusuf Annan on behalf of Syria.

The protocol aims to enhance cooperation in areas such as curriculum development, vocational and technical education, teacher training, special education, and measurement and evaluation.

The program also included visits to several schools and educational institutions in Damascus and Aleppo, conducting field surveys. These meetings aimed to increase the sharing of knowledge and experience in education and to strengthen relations between the two countries.
